When is State Flag Day?

In 2026, State Flag Day falls on Monday, November 9, 2026. It is classified here as a Azerbaijani public holiday.

History of State Flag Day

State Flag Day celebrates Azerbaijan's blue, red and green tricolour, first adopted by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918 and restored in 1991 after independence from the USSR. The colours and eight-pointed star have become a compact, widely recognised expression of Azerbaijani statehood and national identity.

The holiday was established in 2009 and is a non-working day under the Labour Code. It falls immediately after Victory Day, creating a concentrated November period of national symbols, public ceremony and historical memory.

The tricolour was adopted by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on November 9, 1918, replaced under Soviet rule and restored nationally in 1991 after an earlier Nakhchivan decision. State Flag Day was created in 2009 and now appears among Article 105 non-working holidays. It immediately follows Victory Day, so collision rules can extend the sequence. In 2026 November 8 falls on Sunday and November 9 is the flag holiday; the production calendar lists November 10 as the resulting rest day.

How State Flag Day is observed
