When is Morazánica Week?

In 2026, Morazánica Week falls on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Public-sector leave begins on this date; private-sector leave commonly starts at noon, with the exact timetable set by the applicable notice.

History of Morazánica Week

Semana Morazánica combines three October civic anniversaries: October 3, the birth of Francisco Morazán; October 12, historically called Día de la Raza; and October 21, Armed Forces Day. The dates were consolidated to create a predictable national break while preserving their historical references.

Legislative reforms first grouped the holidays as a tourism week and then placed the period from the first Wednesday of October. The change aimed to support domestic tourism, but it also changed how people encounter the individual commemorations: Morazán, Indigenous heritage and military history now share one holiday frame rather than three separate workdays.

For the public sector, the period begins on the first Wednesday of October. Private-sector arrangements commonly run from noon on Wednesday to noon on Saturday under the governing decree. Exact administrative closures can differ, so travelers and workers should consult the annual government and employer notices.

How Morazánica Week is observed

The holiday period begins on the first Wednesday in October. Public-sector and private-sector hours differ, with private-sector leave commonly beginning at noon on Wednesday and ending at noon on Saturday.

Traditions of Morazánica Week

  • Domestic travel

Families use the extended break to visit beaches, mountain towns, archaeological sites and relatives. Hotels and major roads can be busy.

  • Tourism events

Municipalities and tourism businesses schedule fairs, concerts and cultural activities around the week. Programs differ greatly by destination and should be checked locally.

  • Civic reflection

Schools and institutions may discuss Morazán, Indigenous histories and the different meanings attached to the three October anniversaries now combined within the holiday period.

  • Family gatherings

The break creates shared time for meals, reunions and local recreation. Workers should confirm the precise start and end time that applies to their employer.

Dates and observance rules are checked against the official Honduras Labour Code and holiday guidance. Public-sector instructions and private-sector schedules can differ, particularly during Semana Santa and Semana Morazánica.
