When is Sacrifice Feast · Day 1?

In 2026, Sacrifice Feast · Day 1 falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. It is classified here as a Turkish public holiday.

History of Sacrifice Feast · Day 1

The First Day of Sacrifice Feast begins Kurban Bayramı, also known internationally as Eid al-Adha, and recalls Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice in obedience to God. In Türkiye it is one of the year’s longest public breaks, combining worship, family reunion and the strong ethical idea that religious celebration should include care for people in need.

Law No. 2429 assigns four full festival days after the half-day arife afternoon. People who undertake the sacrifice follow religious guidance and legal, veterinary and municipal rules; families commonly distribute meat among relatives, neighbours and those in need. Many others experience the holiday principally through prayer, visiting, shared meals and travel to family homes.

As a Hijri-calendar feast, Kurban Bayramı moves through the Gregorian year. The annual dates and practical public-holiday arrangements are confirmed by the Presidency of Religious Affairs, so the calculation shown here is for planning rather than a substitute for the official announcement.

Law No. 2429 treats this as full day 1 of the four-day Kurban Bayramı general holiday, following the arife half-day that began at 13:00. Weekend overlap does not create a substitute Monday, and the statute’s narrow Friday-to-Saturday continuation should not be generalised into one. Religious sacrifice is voluntary and subject to religious, veterinary, animal-welfare and municipal requirements. Diyanet confirms the Turkish civil dates annually and lists May 27–30 for the four days in 2026.
