When is Eid Al Etihad · Day 1?

In 2026, Eid Al Etihad · Day 1 falls on Wednesday, December 2, 2026. It is classified here as a UAE public holiday.

History of Eid Al Etihad · Day 1

UAE Eid Al Etihad, historically called National Day or Union Day in English, commemorates the formation of the United Arab Emirates on December 2, 1971. Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah entered the federation on that date; Ras Al Khaimah joined on February 10, 1972. The anniversary therefore marks the federal state’s establishment, not the simultaneous union of all seven emirates on one day.

The federation followed the end of Britain’s treaty relationship with the Trucial States and negotiations among the emirates’ rulers. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan became the first President, with Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum as Vice President. Modern official programmes present this constitutional history through heritage, national identity and future-oriented themes, while a neutral guide distinguishes documented chronology from ceremonial language used in a particular year’s campaign.

Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024 sets December 2 and 3 as paid public holidays for government and private sectors. The first day may include official ceremonies, cultural programmes, decorations, light displays and family outings. In 2026 December 2 falls on Wednesday, so no transfer is needed; Article 3 would in any event prevent automatic compensation merely because a fixed holiday coincides with another public holiday or the weekend.
